Belthangady: Dharmadhikari Dr. Veerendra Heggade has welcomed the Kodava community’s ban on alcohol.
Alcohol is used in ceremonies like marriage muhurat and Ganga Puja of Kodava community. Kalimada Motaiah, presidyent of Ponnampete Kodava Samaja has stated in the newspaper that this has been completely banned in the Mahasabha of Ponnampete Kodava Samaja of Kodagu District and this special decision has been taken.
It has been said that if anyone serves alcohol beyond this resolution, a fine of Rs. 25000 will be imposed.
This decision taken by the Kodava Samaja of Ponnampete is a great contribution to building a healthy society. Such model decisions enable everyone to perform ceremonies in a meaningful way. Dr. D. Virendra Heggade expressed his appreciation.
Similarly, Akhila Karnataka State Public Awareness Forum has been working continuously for the prevention of the evil abuse of alcohol and drugs for the past 30 years. In Kodagu district also, district forums were formed and 50 camps were organised in taluk centres like Piriyapattana, Somwarapete, Virajapete, Arakalagudu, Kushalanagara, Bettapura etc. Health resolution programmes are organised for the students.
Rajanna Koravi, State President of Akhila Karnataka Jana Jagruti Vedike has said in the announcement that addicts are turning into pros and this decision has helped a lot.
