Belthangady: The previous Central Government had prepared a draft national policy for rubber crop. If implemented, it will give stable price to the rubber crop. It is necessary when the State Government has to announce a support price to encourage farmers who are reeling under the impact of falling rubber prices. Several politicians have already been submitted demand to the government in this regard, said Ujire Rubber Society President Shridhar G. Bhide.
He was speaking at a press conference held at Sri Krishna Anugraha in Ujire on Saturday September 10. The association is running a pepper purchase business at the procurement centre in Guruvayanakere. The association has come forward to buy latex rubber and the farmers are giving a good response. Already 50,000 kgs of rubber milk has been purchased directly from farmers at a good price and sold. The association has paid more than Rs. 15 Crore as GST to the Government in the last year. Rs. 2 Crore will be given to the members. More than 15 per cent discount has been given to agricultural commodities. A plan has been drawn up to consider and honour the academic progress of the children of the members.
The members who supplied rubber to the association will be given incentives at the rate of Re 1 per kg with a maximum limit of Rs. 5,000, he said.
He added that the Association is protecting the interests of the farmers by conducting business without causing any inconvenience to the members even in the event of natural calamities, Corona, etc., and gave a view of the association’s business, challenges and future plans.
