Dharmasthala : 5 cows of Punganur breed have arrived at Gokul of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala. This very attractive and valuable breed is in high demand.

Although there are about 40 different breeds of cows in the country, there is none that is equal to the Punganur cow. The origin of this breed of cow, which is recognized all over the world, is Punganur village in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. It is said that the name of the village is also derived from this breed of cow.
A cow of this pure nature is worth lakhs of rupees. Adaptable to any situation, these are very neat and clean. Cows of this breed give great importance to cleanliness. They do not require any special diet as they grow on normal diets. They like to graze in pastures. They are temperamental: get along well with people and other livestock. Availability of these highly sought after cows is difficult today.
