Beltangadi : The incident took place around 11.45 pm on Thursday when the fire broke out in the government land on Mathada Majalu road side, which is part of Ghati beginning of Charmadi Gram Panchayat, and entered the Charmadi-Kanapadi Reserve.
More than 2 acres of roadside and forest areas have been damaged by the fire.
Forest Department DRFO Ravindra Ankalagi and staff Rajaram immediately rushed to the spot. Locals Prakash, Muhammad Hanif, Sinan Mugasir Zakaria and others worked together till 4 am on Friday morning and brought the fire under control.
It is suspected that the fire was caused by smokers on the side of Mangalore- Villupuram National Highway or due to the high tension power line passing in the area.
Near the fire incident
Ananta Rao had a farm where the fire spread till there but there was no damage as the fire was brought under control.
For many days
Cases of fire are being seen here and there and after some time after receiving the information, the fire brigade of the forest department is reaching the place and it is difficult to bring the fire under control. Due to this reason, Charmadi Prakashanarayan Rao has requested that if the forest department appoints a team of local youths with honorarium, where such cases are occurring till the onset of monsoon season, more damage can be avoided.
