Beltangadi; Shekhar Laila ended his hunger strike in front of Belthangadi Mini Vidhana Soudha for the last 28 hours, demanding that the illegal and shoddy works being done in the name of development should be investigated by a retired High Court judge.
The hunger strike was going on continuously since March 20 last. CPI(M) leader Shekhar Laila, who started his hunger strike from March 27, continued on Monday night as the authorities did not respond. On Tuesday afternoon, Beltangad Tehsildar Suresh Kumar not only held talks with Shekhar Laila but also responded to the protest in written form, ending his hunger strike.
All types of illegal sand mining going on in Belthangadi taluk were raided by the revenue inspectors including the villagers and gave a written notice to file a criminal case in the concerned police station. He gave written information about obtaining appropriate information from the relevant implementing officers about the illegal and poor level works going on in the name of development and submitting a request to the government to take appropriate measures. On this occasion, Shekhar Laila gave information about the illegal activities going on in different parts of the taluk. On this occasion, he warned the taluk administration that if they fail to stop the irregularities, they will have to fast unto death again.
