Belthangadi: The Nidigal Kindi dam of Netravati river under Kalmanja village panchayat of Mundaje in Belthangadi taluk has been launched.
From time immemorial, a traditional dam was built here to provide water to hundreds of acres of agricultural land in the Kyarthodi environment.
Later, its water is being used for the construction of Kindi Dam here.
Preparation work has been done to clear the maramattu and waste accumulated during the rainy season in Kindi Dam and the water will be collected in the next couple of days. This water will be useful for about two months.
Complementary to ground water
Due to the accumulation of water in the Kindi Dam here, it contributes to the underground water of thousands of wells and lakes including Ujire, Mundaje, Kalmanja, Kanyadi-1 village. Due to the accumulation of water in the Kindi Dam here, there is usually no water problem in the surrounding villages until the rainy season begins. Water accumulates for more than two km along the river. It also benefits many agricultural lands upstream of Kindi Dam. About 2 km from Kindi Dam to Kayarthodi, the water flows in a canal between Mundaje and Kapu Sanctuary. It helps in the ground water of the forest area.
Rotary Club Cooperation
The members of Belthangadi Rotary Club are cooperating with the building beneficiaries to clear the waste, wood and planks of this Kindi Dam through Jalsiri Yojana. Skilled workers are doing most of the work.
