Belthangady: Stringent anti-defection law necessary, states JDS

Belthangady: India is a democratic country where elected representatives of the people switch sides as they please. It is ironic that the masses who chose him are fooling the people even in this 21st century, said JD (S) spokesperson Sushil Noronha.

He was addressing the mediapersons here. Noronha said that a people’s movement, public awareness and influencing of the Government should be done to implement a stringent law. The law should not allow any elected representatives to contest during that period even if they do not defect and resign after being elected, he said.

“Though the anti-defection law came into force in 1985, they benefit from the shortcomings in it even now, he noted.
