Belthangadi: Chennai police visited Dharmasthala after receiving a threatening letter of a bomb blast on New Year at Bhatkal police station in Uttara Kannada district. The letter was sent from the post office under Dharmasthala police station.
Hanamanta (42), a native of Hospet, was arrested by the Chennai police for writing the fake bomb letter. He had sent an anonymous bomb blast threat letter to the Bhatkal Shahar police station on November 11. It is said that in the letter the target after Chennai was Bathkal, and was also written in Urdu language. When the police started investigating, they came to know that a similar letter message was received in Tamil Nadu as well.
The police received a tip-off about the thief when they were investigating the issue of selling a stolen laptop in Chennai. After his arrest, when he was interrogated, he had written a threatening letter to Tamil Nadu Puliantopu and Bhatkal police in the post box of Dharmasthala village on November 29. Chennai police visited Dharmasthala. Locally, they checked the CCTV footage of the surroundings along with checking the mailboxes. Anil Kumar, Sub-Inspector of Dharmasthala Police Station said that they will provide additional cooperation in the investigation.
It has come to know that the police have continued to investigate the fact that he had traveled to other places including Sulya and Subrahmanya in the district.
