Belthangadi: A felicitation program for 18 students of various schools who won the award in the first International Open Karate Championship held at the Gokul Road Gokul Garden Sabhabhavan in Hubballi city was held at the MLA’s Shramik office on January 26, the day of Rajotsava.
Out of 18 students from different schools of the taluk, 4 students got gold medal, 4 students got silver medal, 10 students got bronze medal and Beltangadi students got team award. MLA Harish Poonja congratulated all the award winning students and said, “It is a matter of pride for the taluk that the students participated in the international karate competition and got the comprehensive award for the taluk. In the future, encouragement will be given to the students who participate in the state, national and international level competitions.”
Karate teacher Vasant B. Bangera said, “Students of our taluk have won the prize in the International Open Karate Competition and brought glory to the taluk. If they have to participate in this competition, the expenses will be more than 8 thousand. When the children are from poor families and the parents cannot afford it, we brought to the attention of the MLAs that the father will bear all the expenses himself. “They have given full cooperation. In addition, Punit and Yogesh, members of Gram Panchayat, have given encouragement,” he thanked everyone. Parents of children were present on this occasion.
